Information for Families

We understand that our cockroach friends are not the most "cuddly" classroom pet. But we want to assure you that the creatures are harmless being that they cannot bite and they also do not carry any of the bacteria commonly associated with the word "cockroach".

These creatures actually prefer to be held and will even stop hissing after becoming used to human contact!

These critters are an extremely unique, hands-on way for students to learn about living things, growth, and how to care for a pet. These creatures will not only teach students important lessons in science but will also teach students about responsibility, accountability, and decency towards animals and living things.

Below is a link to a form that gives your child the consent to hold one of these animals during classroom time. The cockroaches will only be handled for instructional purposes and with teacher supervision.

Costs & Donations

As with any pet, our new cockroach friends have some costs in order to be properly cared for! We, of course, do not require parents/families to make any payments, but donations to our classroom in the form of money or even the materials would help us in operating this unique learning experience!

On the right are our operating costs for managing and caring for our new friends.

Thank you so much in advance for your contribution to students' learning!
